AT A GLANCE
Overseas Cost savings Mitigated by New Technology
Tighter Tolerance & No need for Laser Cutting
Objective
Bring production of an American Icon “Jar of Combs” back to the United States from China. Those Jars have been a staple of Americana for almost a century. However, the production of the metal components was outsourced to China years ago for costs reduction. Use new technology and take advantage of closing labor rates to began manufacturing of these components.
Solution
New Servo Presses allow “slow draw” and deeper draw. The “Slow Draw” capabilities has allowed a pre-polished material to be drawn and formed without distortion to the finish. Under old production methods, fished parts would have to be hand polished. Deeper Drawing, In-process Secondary Operations & Variable Speeds result in saved time and money.
Benefits
Lower Part Costs
More parts per hour can be produced. Servo presses use material more efficiently. Automakers have also jumped on board with the new technology; noting that stamping larger parts rather than welding smaller components together is much more cost effective.
Lower Tooling Costs & Conversion of Existing Tooling
Lower tooling costs as more processes can be done in fewer operations = smaller and less expensive tools. More bed sizes, speeds and drawing options. Servo presses extend the life of your old tooling.
More Precise Parts Can Now Be Stamped
Parts that used to require laser, wire or water cutting can now be stamped. Tight tolerances that would never have been imaged even 10 years ago are now possible in the low cost environment of stamping.
