Deep Drawing Half Hard Brass Is Hard

At Acro, we have a lot of experience with deep drawing a wide variety of materials; but they are usually annealed or soft temper. Recently a customer came to us with a challenge to do a 2 steep deep draw out of Half Hard Brass (the temper and Tin Content, make this difficult). As, a matter of fact, HH Brass is more difficult to draw than annealed stainless steeel.

Our stamping specific modeling software calculated we would need somewhere between 4 and 16 Draws. While the simulation software is a helpful tool; there was still a lot of trial and error required on this one. This Brass had a tendency to tear, instead of stretch; so we need to come up with ways to let the material flow. In the end, our experience and expertise helped us design & build tooling with 8 Draw Stations to achieve the desired shape.
